Stats from IPSOS, the global market research company, say that 65% of active Internet users in Nigeria shop online and these numbers are expected to grow by 24% in the near futures.
In a move to get more Nigerians online, Airtel Nigeria, one of the biggest telecom in that Country and the Continent, has joined forces with Payporte, a leading online shopping portal and Opera to offer Nigerians Sponsored Web Pass. The first Sponsored Web Pass to be offered in Africa was on the MTN Network that was underwritten by Naij.com. A move that gave thousands of subscribers on the MTN Network a total of 1 million and 24 hours of Internet passes for free.
