Andela spreads its wings to Uganda

Andela has set up a new branch in Uganda. Bringing the total the total number of Andela hubs across Africa to three; in Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda.

Andela was found in 2014 by Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Jeremy Johnson to train software developers and link them in partner companies from across the globe. The Andela cohorts of trainees learn technical skills while at the same time earn money working for the various companies.

The talent accelerator started out in Lagos, Nigeria, before expanding its operations to Nairobi, Kenya two years ago. Uganda seems the best option for next destination given 70% of its population is young and below the age of 25. The country also has a high ICT prevalence and quality.

In a blog post, Andela writes, “Andela sees this as an opportunity to equip the next generation of technologist and innovators in Kampala with the expertise they need to accelerate the advancement of their communities through technology.”

Just like in Nigeria and Kenya, Andela is recruiting young budding software engineer in Uganda to train them and connect them to various tech companies within and outside the country. Andela …read more
