Facebook has added a new product line to its services offerings. An online marketplace where users can buy and sell items from other Facebook users around them.
The Facebook Online Marketplace works in more or less the same way OLX, Jumia Marketplace (locally in Kenya) and eBay, Craigslist, and Gumtree (abroad) works. It is a user-to-user online platform where they can buy and sell goods with one another.
The Facebook Marketplace will launch this week across the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Although currently, Facebook users do make sells or purchases on the social network. The launched Marketplace is an additional platform dedicated to just selling and buying items from other users, as opposed to posting on Facebook groups or one’s Page.
Stats show that already some 450 million Facebook users actively buy and sell goods on the social network per month. Primarily through the Facebook groups. As Bown Pan, the Facebook Project Manager says, the social network is now formally giving users a marketplace for conducting such businesses.
