17-year-old Maame Biney is the first black women to make it to the U.S. Olympic speedskating team with a pair of victories in the 500 meters category.
Biney made the team during last Saturday as she cruised to victory in the first 500 final race for the short track trials. She was up against Olympians Katherine Reutter-Adamek, Jessica Kooreman, and Lana Gehring.
Before the second final kick off, Biney’s father was sited at the stand held a sign that read, “Kick some hiney Biney.”
When Biney crossed the finish line, she began clapping and pumping her arms so hard that she lost her balance and fell down laughing.
“When I realized that I made the Olympic team, I started cheering like crazy and then I made my epic fall.” Said Biney.
Biney has booked her seat for the flight taking U.S. atheletes to Pyeongchang, South Korea for the February, 2018 Winter Games.
