Joy is the Director for Miss Nigeria USA pageant in New York City. She has a degree in Healthcare Service Administration and she’s currently working on her Masters in Public Health. Joy has been involved in several Medical & Educational Missions and recently decided to start an NGO whose mission will be focusing on women empowerment centering on achieving parity on all levels of education. Without further delay, below is our interview with Joy.
Why did you start the Miss Nigeria USA Competition?
Well, i started the Miss Nigeria USA pageant to raise the profile of the Nigerian woman to expand their opportunities while illuminating their outer beauty and also to empower these ladies by creating a forum and opportunity for competition among the most brilliant and beautiful women of Nigeria.
What is your goal with this Competition?
With Miss Nigeria USA, my goals and aspirations are to reach young girls of Nigerian descent throughout the continental United States, informing them of our empowerment programs and how they can contribute to the sustainable development of their homeland.
What is your personal commitment to education for girls?
Education is important for everyone, but empowering girls and women, this is a critical area. This is not only because education is an entry point to opportunity but also because women’s educational achievements have positive ripple effects within the family and across generations. Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. and I firmly believe that when you invest in girls, they will support not just themselves but entire generations.
What do the winners receive from this Competition?
The winners receive a prize of over $10,000 in cash & prizes.
Who can enter this competition and when can they enter?
Any Nigerian descent from the age of 18-28 but we are no longer accepting applications until September 2015 for the 2016 competition.
