Kenya is home to some of the most committed soccer fans in the world; especially, fans of football clubs playing in the English Premier League (EPL). Something that has made the South African-owned DStv through its SuperSports package finds a booming business in Kenya.
Well, it appears there is going to be a little competition for DStv (I stress on a little), with the launch of a new free to air sports channel in Kenya, Kwese Free Sports TV. This new channel strategy for breaking into the local market is by enticing viewers with one free Live EPL match every Saturday at 5:00 PM and preview shows before and after the game is over.
As the name Kwese Free Sports TV suggests, this channel will be all free and focusing on sports contents. Other than the EPL, (well, the one match every Saturday), Kwese has also signed up rights to other sports like the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC), AVIVA Premiership Rugby, and Formula E Championship among others.
