When it comes to the number of Women-owned businesses worldwide Ghana trumps all countries

When you look at the number of business owners per country across the globe, Ghana has the highest percentage of women-owned businesses. That is according to the Mastercard index of Women’s Entrepreneurship (MIWE).

MIWE uses weighted index to come up with this global ranking of percentage for each gender per country. The purpose of counting the number of businesses owned by each gender is to paint a clear picture of the gender gap in business for any given country.

The MIWE research has concluded that Ghana has the highest percentage of businesses owned by women. The West African nation has 46.4 percent of the businesses owned by women; beating even countries that would prejudicially be thought to be leading like the U.S., U.K. Switzerland and the other western countries in general.

The East African country, Uganda, comes in third place worldwide with women-owned businesses accounting to 33.8 percent.

Ghana and Nigeria also scored well in the advanced outcomes category, with scores of 62.4 and 59.1 percent respectively. The African continent scored well generally with regards to the number of women in the labor force. The top three African countries …read more
